a tip about seo tips

Filed under: contests — admin @ 3:47 pm

If your SEO tip or tips are selected for inclusion in SEO Notebook, your bio will be included directly beneath it for all to see (tips can be of any length). Please be sure to include your bio with each tip that you submit for inclusion. Your bio should be one paragraph with up to 50 words – not including submitter name, title and URL. Here’s an example of an SEO tip with the submitter’s bio:

How Search Engines Work

Search engines are sometimes referred to as robots, spiders or crawlers. This is because they use a software utility that literally crawls through your Website, catalogs the information and indexes the content for later reference. When a visitor performs a search, the search results are based on keyword matching and site content of cataloged pages.

A search engine has its spider or robot crawl through the World Wide Web (www) and travel from Website to Website. In fact, if your page is linked from anybody else’s site, you technically don’t even need to submit your site to a search engine. The theory is that search engines indexing the Web (spidering and cataloging) will eventually find your site on its own by following the links in a page that links to yours.

Although this might be true, you might need to submit your own site to make sure it gets in. Before doing this however, you should check to make sure that your site is not listed and then submit it only if it is not. This is to avoid being accused of over-submitting.

If your site was cataloged before you were ready, you will want to consider resubmitting it – but only if you can do so without violating any submission rules. This is very important!

  1. I’m loving the community written SEO book idea. I also think it’s cool that the book is being written by seopartner.com and each tip credited directly to the submitter instead of the site owner or web-master being credited as the author.

I’ve always wanted to write an SEO book but I am not really a writer and I don’t have enough material on my own. I just wanted to thank you guys for setting this up so people like me can be contributing authors of an SEO book. I can already see this helping me close more deals by giving me an edge over the competition. Thanks!

  2. I really hate to say it but there is NO such thing as over submitting a website. I will say it again there is NO such thing as over submitting a website.

This is a common myth started by high prices SEO companies years back to scare website owners into using their service.

You will never get banned for over submitting your website….think about it if this was true you could simply get all your competition by "over submitting" their websites. The search engines that count are much smarter than this.

  3. Well, Joe, while it’s pretty extinct right now, as near in the past as 2 years ago, a number of SEs, such as AltaVista, would ban a website for oversubmitting. Soon, this practice was stopped due to competition issues that you mentioned.

At the moment, submitting to a search engine more than once will just MOVE your site down the waiting list - in other words, the more you resubmit, the longer it will take before your site is indexed. So over-submitting is still not a good idea. In addition, submitting a lot of sites from the same IP will sometimes get it banned for a while from using the SE.
