Marketing for a “boring” industry? Producing content for such a niche can be tough. While some industries can easily be promoted with a trendy post or a viral campaign, there are also many types of businesses that you can’t easily market with, say, a tear-jerking online video or with witty copy.
But as they say, a niche is only boring if you define it as so. Here are some content marketing ideas that can take your content from “boring” to brilliant.
Be a problem solver.
You cease to be boring when you choose to be helpful. Know the problems of your target market and provide solutions–you won’t exactly be gong viral, but you’ll most likely get the attention of the people and potential customers.
Newsjack.
Look for the most talked-about topic or issue or controversy in your industry. Now write about that–share your commentary, tips or insights on it. This is called newsjacking and it’s a surefire way to get the conversation going.
Visualize your data.
Add thrill to your data-driven content by looking for other ways to present them. It could be an infographic, an explainer video, even a photo essay. When done well, visuals make information easier to digest and more interesting to read.
Try analogies.
Analogies, when used right, can make complicated information simpler to understand. Think about this example from Hubspot and see if you can do something similar to your topic: “Inbound marketing is like dating … You don’t ask someone to marry you on the first date.”
Take lessons from print media.
Most popular magazines and journals, even if they have gone 100% digital, use print journalism principles for producing effective content. Analyze the posts of popular industry publishers. Contact their editorial team if they accept contributions, so you can learn their style and also have an opportunity to get published on a high-authority site.
