There are a lot of ways in bringing traffic, leads and links to your site. One of the most basic and most effective ways in doing so is relative and high-quality content. Content has never failed to bring traffic, links and leads. Even spam blogs do this to drive traffic, leads and links to their site.
Some Web marketers may tell you that simply publishing content does not achieve anything, it means that they have never done it (right). It can be said that it’s easy to publish content that fails to attract traffic, but when even spam blogs can bring in traffic, leads and links to their site, you have to ask what these web markets have been doing that challenges them to match the performance of spam blogs.
So why is it that simply publishing content is enough?
Today, we all live in a world of RSS feeds, hyperactive crawlers and DNS-aware websites. If you dig deep into it, you can rarely find a website that fails to get indexed in just a few weeks unless of course the owner or publisher takes steps in preventing robots from indexing their website.
Attract crawls by publishing an RSS feed – Especially if your website Pings. When using WordPress as a publishing platform for your blog, you don’t need to do anything other than just publish the post. Sites that use WordPress as a platform has a default function of sending out PING notifications automatically. The content will be indexed in a matter of days and in worst cases, a few weeks.
Hyperactive crawlers – these are little bots looking for RSS feeds and new content. Bing and Google run these types of hyperactive crawlers which will then index your content so that it can start earning traffic and search sites. RSS feed directories also run hyperactive crawlers.
DNS-aware websites – these types of websites monitors the activation of domain names. It may send out a crawler to scan the site or may just publish “whois” information about the site. Most Web marketers disavow these types of websites because they may cause harm but that’s because they are not aware that it actually helps you.
In fact, there is nothing wrong with these kinds of links because search engines know you did not create these links. They either ignore it or give very little weight to it, but they do drive crawl.
Real visibility for you content can be achieved through random queries.
Long-tail queries are rarely defined by web marketers in a manner that matches those used by Bing and Google. There is no length requirement for long-tail queries – it can be 1-word queries or 20-word queries. It consists of rarely used queries and there are a LOT of these kinds of queries.
Moreover, these long-tail queries often reflect specific user needs. Once your content is a clear match for these queries, there can be a very good chance of making a conversion.
Content length doesn’t matter.
Longer content has become the new Web spam. Here’s a few example of long-form content spam:
- Articles consisting of many quotations with little or no transitional context
- Articles that contain many images (especially screen captures)
- Articles that contain many unrelated facts with little or no transitional context
- Articles that are written to cover as many “long tail” queries as possible
- Articles that are hard to read because of incessant popups and calls to action
