Google’s attention was caught by the practice of brands engaging with popular bloggers. Because of this, Google decided to offer advice on what bloggers should do regarding this situation. Here are some of them:
* Bloggers should use nofollow links to the following:
– a company’s sites
– a company’s social pages
– an online merchant’s page that sells products
– a review page featuring reviews of a product
– a company’s mobile app on an app store
* Use the nofollow tag for links that are not obtained organically.
* Google may take action if it deems that links have been added to posts in exchange for free goods.
* Companies or marketing firms should remind bloggers to use nofollow links.
* Bloggers should disclose relationships, just as if this was a form of sponsored content.
* Bloggers should always create compelling content
It has always been known to many that if Google sees a relationship between freebies and followed links, the blogger may suffer.
