Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is close to unveiling an update to the social media service which will increase the character limit in every tweet from 140 to 10,000. Based on a source cited in the latest Recode article, “making Tweets bigger by adding more content or bigger pictures has diminished user engagement in the past”. However, in the recent survey conducted by Social Media firm Buffer, tweets with embedded images received 150% more retweets, 18% more clicks, and 89% more likes. Twitter will warn you if you are about to breach that 140 character limit while you compose – this means that nobody will be forcing you to ever go over the current limit if you do not want to.
Why This New Move Is A Good Idea
1. By keeping a staging area at 140 characters, Twitter users will have the ability to create punchier leads into a fuller piece, like a snappy subject line or a blog title.
2. Marketers may use this as a new means of content creation as well as thought leaderships instead of paying for Twitter ads that no one engages with.
3. A larger limit allows the ability to have conversions over a topic with multiple people.
4. Customer service on Twitter can be improved since consumers now have an expanded way of dealing with issues. Businesses will likewise have an easier way to explain a solution.
5. Search will certainly be improved. Also, Twitter will become a real core asset to businesses and/or power users who want their content to be visible.
6. Twitter can now give deeper analytics to differentiate between those which have been expanded to be read in full and those which only have simple impressions on the title.
7. More characters mean more data and deeper analytics to gain insights about your consumers, brand advocates, and audience. It also expands your ability to personally target your audience.
