Many companies who put up their own websites often get a hard time writing the About Us page. For some commercial businesses, this is often the most awkward thing to write. Crafting the perfect About Page is easier said than done. Finding the right balance between selling your company to the readers and driving them away with a self-centered approach can be difficult. Below are some of the tips that you can consider doing for your company’s About Us page.
1. Talk about your audience not yourself. Dedicate your opening sentences to your audience’s challenges and objectives, and remember to state the facts.
2. Let your customers do the talking. Include a few glowing and up-to-date testimonials from your customers.
3. Consider using different forms of media. The use of photos, timelines, videos or infographics make your About page a feast for the eyes; incorporate a
strong image and design while still providing your visitors with the key information they need.
4. Tell your brand’s story, even if it does not happen to be an interesting one. However, don’t tell your readers everything, just focus on the things that make
you human, and don’t be afraid of where you come from.
5. Make sure you put in your address and contact information. State at least your city or town, if you don’t want to disclose your full address, and make sure
your contact details are up-to-date.
6. Avoid using jargons. Don’t name your about page with some obscure name (example: The Journey, or Our Ethos), simply write conversationally. What
people really want is to learn exactly what it is that you do in the most simple terms.
7. Other people’s opinions matter. Identify what makes you stand out in business by asking your employees, friends, peers, and even clients.
8. Your About Us page is a reflection of your company. All the special features, impressive videos and high tech designs are extremely impressive, but will
only really work if they fit in with the rest of your site, your industry and your company as a whole.
9. Run some tests. Spend a fair amount of time to make amendments to your About page, and make sure it’s accessible on all devices.
