Always try to have a minimum of 100 visible words on each page, but having 250-300 is even better. Some engines penalize your page if it lacks textual content.

Just one quick observation: 300 to 400 words of content per page is the best range I have found for Google. More is probably better, but I have been using a magic formula that seems to work well. It goes like this:
100 +/- words per paragraph
3 to 4 paragraphs per page (or more if I have enough content)
Keyword mentioned up to 7 times (3 times in para #1, 2 times in para #2 and once each in the bottom two paragraphs).
This works great for me.
